Day 2: Arrive in Dublin travel to Galway

Meet you driver and guide at the airport and start your drive across the centre of Ireland to Galway for your 2 night stay. En route we will pass through Athlone, the heart of Ireland, to visit Sean’s, Irelands Oldest Pub. Drive on to Clonmacnoise, a monastic settlement that has seen many violent and destructive periods in its history and was destroyed by fire at least 13 times; 8 times by the Vikings, 6 times by the Anglo Normans and 26 times by the Irish. Each time the Monks rebuilt! Continue on to Galway City, after a brief overview of the city with your driver you will be checked into The House Hotel for your 2-night stay.

Galway City at the mouth of Galway Bay is both a picturesque and lively city with a wonderful avant-garde culture and a fascinating mixture of locally owned specialty shops, often featuring locally made crafts. Indeed local handcrafts are a feature of the entire region including hand knits, pottery, glass, jeweler and woodwork. The city has many relics of its medieval past and is worth taking time to explore. It has changed considerably over the last number of years and features a fascinating juxtaposition of new and ancient architecture. Dinner tonight at the House Hotel.

Day 3: Tour the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren & Ashford Castle

Cliff of Moher

Enjoy a great day of touring in County Clare, including a visit to the magnificent Cliffs of Moher, which stretch dramatically 700 feet above the Atlantic for miles of coastline. We recommend a stop at Ailwee Cave to see the Underground River and waterfall. Explore the lunar-like Burren region, famous for its unique flora and fauna, geology, and archaeology. To see the hidden Ireland off the main tourist track you’ll visit Cong Village where you have time to explore Cong Woods and see Ashford Castle or stroll the town famous for being the location for the 1950s classic movie, ‘The Quiet Man”. Dinner tonight is at your leisure in Galway City.

Day 4: Visit Adare & Muckross House on the way to Killarney

This morning we say goodbye to Galway, driving down through Corkscrew Hill through the bare

Muckross House

limestone hills of the Burren, where tradition holds that Columbus prayed before sailing to America. Continue to Adare, a very special place with woodland settings, beautiful stonework, thatched cottages, and a broad main street. Stop for lunch at the lovely Muckross House and Gardens in Killarney National Park. Spend time enjoying the gardens, lake and house. Check in at Earls Court House for the next 2-nights. Dinner tonight is at your leisure in Killarney.

Day 5: Dingle Peninsula

Today we will tour the Dingle Peninsula. National Geographic once declared the Dingle Peninsula “the most beautiful place on earth.” Take a tour of the Dingle Peninsula featuring some of Ireland’s most spectacular coastal scenery. From the Connor Pass to Slea Head, the peninsula’s spectacular coastal scenery & rugged terrain is a photographer’s delight. The fishing town of Dingle is well known for hiking, fishing and sailing by day and by night for its lively restaurants and traditional music scene. Dinner tonight is at Earls Court House.

Day 6: The Ring of Kerry, Cobh & Kinsale

This morning enjoy a driving tour of the Ring of Kerry, famous for its spectacular seascapes, green roads and quaint fishing villages. Stop for coffee at Ladies View, a scenic spot made famous by a 1861 visit by Queen Victoria and her ladies in waiting. From Waterville you can see the Skellig Islands, the site of ruins from a monastery dating back to the sixth century. Waterville, a favorite vacation spot for Charlie Chaplin and his family, is home to a statue of Chaplin! This afternoon we leave Killarney and drive through West Cork to Kinsale, fondly known as the Gourmet Capital of Ireland. We will visit Cobh, where the Titanic set sail 100 years ago on its last, fateful voyage and where millions of Irish immigrants left for a better life between 1848 & 1850. Overnight at Trident Hotel in Kinsale. Dinner tonight is at your leisure in Kinsale.

Day 7: Kilkenny & Dublin

Today we will visit Kilkenny, Ireland’s best example of a medieval town. It is beautifully situated on the River Nore, which forms the moat of its magnificently restored castle. Continue on to Dublin & enjoy an overview of the city before your check in at The Burlington Hotel for your final 2-nights. Enjoy the evening to people watch and relax with a pint of Guinness or explore some nearby Dublin attractions. Irish hospitality abounds in Dublin’s excellent pubs and restaurants.
